Live and act
Johannes Loesel received his first training at the city school in Insterburg . In 1626 he began studying at the University of Königsberg . During the semester 1630/1631 Loesel studied in Frankfurt / Oder , Leipzig and Wittenberg , where he heard lectures from Daniel Sennert . In 1632 he obtained his master's degree in Königsberg .
Following this, Loesel traveled to several European countries, including France , England and Holland, as an educator for a Swedish general . Later he worked diplomatically for Prince Georg Raköczi of Transylvania . In June 1636 Loesel enrolled in the matriculation of the University of Rostock . In 1639 he received his doctorate in medicine from the University of Leiden . From 1639 until his death he was professor of medicine at the University of Königsberg.
Loesel worked on a flora of Prussia that he was unable to complete due to illness. His son of the same name Johannes Loesel (* 1641) published the manuscript in 1654 under the title Plantae in borussia sponte nascentes e manuscriptis parentis . Johann Gottsched (1668–1704) revised and expanded the manuscript. He published the result in 1703 as Flora Prussica .
Honor taxon
Linnaeus named in his honor the genus Loeselia the plant family of polemoniaceae (Polemoniaceae).
