Johannes Strubbe

Johannes Strubbe , also Johannes Strube or Ioannes Strubius (* around 1510 in Deventer ; † August 7, 1558 ) was a Dutch law scholar and university professor.

Life

Johannes Strubbe was born in Deventer at the beginning of the 16th century. On October 24, 1531 he was enrolled at the Artistic Faculty of the Universitas Studii Coloniensis . He completed his Bachelor's degree at the Laurentiana-Burse , which is part of the university , followed by a Bachelor's degree. at the Kronenburse (Tricoronatum) until his doctorate in 1539. On March 17, 1540, he also received his doctorate as a licentiate . After that, he held a professorship (ius civile) at the law faculty.

In order to help the University of Rostock , which was declining in the turmoil of the Reformation , to regain a reputation, Andreas Eggerdes was sent to Cologne in 1540 on behalf of the Rostock Senate to recruit teachers for the Rostock Academy with financial help from several Hanseatic cities . Gisbert Longolius from Utrecht , Johannes Bronkhorst from Nijmegen and Strubbe were among those courted by the councilors . In 1542 they came to Rostock, where they were enrolled together on November 11th at the Philosophical Faculty by the then rector Eggerdes.

Strubbe received the council professorship of law (ius civile) at the law faculty. In the semesters 1544/45 he was rector of the university and also from 1542 syndicus of the city. Strubbe prepared with Longolius and under his leadership a reform of the university, which was published posthumously after Longolius' death in 1544.

Strubbe left Rostock in 1545 and became Syndicus at the cathedral monastery in Lübeck. In 1549 he moved to Hamburg and in 1556 back to Lübeck, where he was appointed to the royal Danish council. Strubbe died the following year.
