John Brightman, Baron Brightman

John Anson Brightman, Baron Brightman PC (born June 20, 1911 in Sandridge , City and District of St Albans , Hertfordshire - † February 6, 2006 ) was a British lawyer who last served as Lord of Appeal in Ordinary on the basis of the Appellate Jurisdiction Act 1876 when Life Peer was also a member of the House of Lords .

Life

After visiting the Marlborough College graduated Brightman, whose father Solicitor was studying law at St John's College of the University of Cambridge and received in 1932 the lawyer Admitted to the Bar Association ( Inns of Court ) from Lincoln's Inn , and he working as a barrister recorded. At the beginning of the Second World War he became a seaman in the merchant navy in 1939 and then served in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (RNVR) between 1940 and 1946. Most recently he was promoted to Korvettenkapitän there in 1944 and was Deputy Naval Attaché in Turkey until 1946 .

He then resumed his legal practice and also served as a member of the General Council of the Bar between 1955 and 1960. Brightman, the 1961 Queen's Counsel ( Queen's Counsel ) and 1,966 so-called "Bencher" the Bar from Lincoln's Inn was, was again 1966-1970 Member of the General Council of the Bar. During this time he was from 1969 to 1970 Attorney General of the Duchy of Lancaster and Serjeant of the County Palatine of Lancashire.

In 1970 he became a judge in the Chamber for Economic Matters ( Chancery Division ) at the High Court of Justice responsible for England and Wales and held this judicial office until 1979. At the same time, he was promoted to Knight Bachelor in 1970 and has since been named "Sir". During this time, he also served as a judge at the National Industrial Relations Court between 1971 and 1974.

After completing his post as a judge at the High Court of Justice, in 1979 he was appointed judge ( Lord Justice of Appeal ) at the Court of Appeal , the court of appeal responsible for England and Wales, where he worked until 1982. In 1979 he was also appointed Privy Councilor .

Last Bridge was a Letters Patent of 11 March 1982, through the Appellate Jurisdiction Act 1876 as a life peer with the title Baron Brightman , of Ibthorpe in the County of Hampshire for a member of the House of Lords in the nobility called and worked until 1986 as a Lord Judge ( Lord of Appeal in Ordinary ).
