John Burpee Mills (born July 24, 1850 in Granville Ferry , Nova Scotia , † December 28, 1913 in Providence , Rhode Island ) was a Canadian lawyer and politician . He was a member of the Canadian Parliament for the constituency of Annapolis from 1887 to 1900 .

biography

John Burpee Mills was born in 1850 in the village of Granville Ferry in the British colony of Nova Scotia to John Mills and Jane McCormick. At Acadia College he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1871 and a Master of Arts in 1877 . He also studied at Harvard Law School . After being admitted to the bar in 1875, he was appointed crown attorney in 1890 . As a lawyer, he first worked in Annapolis Royal (Nova Scotia) and later from 1905 in British Columbia . He was also an editor for the Annapolis Spectator .

From 1882 to 1887 Mills was a member of the Annapolis Parish Council. In the 1887 election he was elected to the Canadian House of Commons in the Annapolis constituency for the Conservative Party of Canada . After the re-elections in 1891 and 1896 , he was defeated in the 1900 election.

Mills was married first to Bessie B. Corbitt from 1878 and later to Agnes K. Rose from 1896. He died on December 28, 1913 at the age of 63 in Providence , Rhode Island, USA .
