John Clark (born March 13, 1941 in Bellshill , Lanarkshire ) is a retired Scottish football player . He was one of the Lisbon Lions who won the European Champion Clubs' Cup in 1967 .

Career

As a player

Clark moved from Larkhall Thistle FC to Parkhead in 1958 . There he scored his first goal in a cup game against Hibernian Edinburgh . After this goal and the hiring of coach Jock Stein , he finally made his breakthrough at the Celtics. He then won the championship six times with Glasgow, the cup four times and the league cup six times. This he took with Celtic several times a European Cup and was able in 1967 after victories against Dukla Prague and FC Nantes the European Champion Clubs' Cup win. After thirteen years, he finally left Celtic and moved to Greenock Morton . In Greenock he played two more years in the first division and was thirteenth and fourteenth respectively before retiring from his career.

He also ran four times for the Scottish national team and scored no goal.

As a trainer

Eleven years after the end of his playing career, he started working as a coach. In the third division he took over Cowdenbeath FC and led it to fourth place in the final standings. During the following season he briefly took over as coach of FC Stranraer , but could not prevent relegation to the fourth division there. The second division FC Clyde then gave him a long-term position. There he often only narrowly escaped relegation before he could not avert it in the 1990/91 season. When he did not succeed in direct recovery, he resigned from office and ended his coaching career.
