John Egan (Manager)

Sir John Leopold Egan (born November 7, 1939 Rawtenstall / Lancashire ) is a British manager . Egan has been Chairman of the UK water utility Severn Trent since 2005 . He has been Chancellor of Coventry University since 2007 . He is also a director of Warwick Castle Park Trust Ltd and Borwick Group Limited, the parent company of electric car maker Modec .

Egan is married and has two daughters.

Career

John Egan was born on November 7, 1939, the son of a car dealer in Rawtenstall / Lancashire . Egan's educational path led through the Bablake School to Imperial College at London University , where he studied petroleum engineering and graduated with a bachelor's degree. Finally, he studied business administration at the London Business School , where he graduated with a Master of Science degree.

John Egan began his career as a petroleum engineer with Shell International from 1966–1968 .

Egan then worked for a long time in vehicle construction, first with General Motors from 1962–66 , then with British Leyland from 1968–71 and finally with Massey Ferguson from 1976–80 , before becoming Chairman and Chief Executive of the British luxury car manufacturer Jaguar from 1980–90 .

During this time he was President of the European Association of Car Manufacturers, Association des Constructeurs Européens d'Automobiles .

After Jaguar was sold to Ford , he left Jaguar and was appointed to the board of the British Airports Authority in 1990, becoming its chief executive that same year. He held this position until 1999.

From 2000 to 2006 he was chairman of the auto dealership Inchape.

From 2002 to 2004 he was President of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI).

John Egan was ennobled in 1986 as a Knight Bachelor ("Sir") and honored with eight honorary doctorates and two honorary professorships .
