John Furlong (actor)

John Thomas Furlong (born April 14, 1933 in Albany , New York , † June 23, 2008 in Nashville , Tennessee ) was an American actor who was best known for his work for Russ Meyer .

Life

Furlong grew up under five brothers and served in the United States Navy after graduation . He then studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York and worked as a stage actor .

Furlong made his cinema debut in 1965 in the Russ Meyer film Im Garten der Lust . In the cult film Die Satansweiber von Tittfield , he took on the role of the narrator. He appeared in other Meyer films as an actor and as a narrator. In the last Meyer film In the Deep Valley of the Super Witches from 1979, Meyers even used it to synchronize his own voice . Furlong's voice was preferred by Meyer mainly because of its similarity to Humphrey Bogart's voice.

In addition to his engagement for Russ Meyer, he appeared in numerous TV series such as Detective Rockford - a call is enough and Cagney & Lacey and as a supporting actor in films such as Streets of the Night , When the Postman Rings Twice and The Wild Wild West . He had his last major roles in John Carpenter's Vampires and in the action film Maniacts, which was previously unreleased in German-speaking countries .

In 2001 Furlong retired from the acting business and settled with his wife Terry Mahaffey in Nashville, where he died in 2008.
