John Hardee

John Hardee (* 20th December 1918 in Corsicana , Texas ; † 18th May 1984 in Dallas , Texas) was an American tenor saxophonist of Swing and music teacher .

Life

During his time at Bishop College he toured with Don Albert (1937/38), graduated in 1941, worked as a band director at a Texas school and played with local bands in and around Dallas. After his military service, he worked at Tiny Grimes in 1946 and performed at the New York Club 845 . During this time, up to 1948, he wrote about 18 pieces under his own name, eight of them for Blue Note Records . In the early 1950s he returned to Dallas, worked in the school system and only played with local formations. He taught at Wichita Falls High School and Lincoln High School in Dallas and was a. a. Teacher to Leo Wright from Wichita Falls and James Clay from Dallas. In 1975 he performed at the festival in Nice.

During his active time as a musician, John Hardee played with Clyde Bernhardt , Cousin Joe , Russell Procope , Earl Bostic , Billy Kyle , Helen Humes , Billy Taylor , Lucky Millinder . His style on the tenor is heavily influenced by Coleman Hawkins and Chu Berry .
