John Jeremiah McRaith (born December 6, 1934 in Hutchinson , Minnesota , † March 19, 2017 ) was an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Owensboro .

Life

John Jeremiah McRaith studied philosophy and theology at St. Bernard Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa, and was ordained a priest on February 21, 1960 . He was Chancellor and Vicar General of the Diocese of New Ulm and from 1971 to 1978 director of the National Catholic Rural Life Conference .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Owensboro on October 23, 1982 . The episcopal ordination donated him the Archbishop of Louisville , Thomas Cajetan Kelly OP , on December 15 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Henry Joseph Soenneker , Bishop Emeritus of Owensboro, and Raymond Alphonse Lucker , Bishop of New Ulm.

On January 5, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI. to resign for health reasons.
