John Joseph Graham

John Joseph Graham (born September 11, 1913 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , † August 4, 2000 in Darby , Pennsylvania) was auxiliary bishop in Philadelphia .

Life

John Joseph Graham attended St. Joseph's Preparatory School in Philadelphia. At St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Overbrook , he began studying philosophy and Catholic theology , which he attended the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome continued with the promotion of doctor of theology graduated. Graham received on 26 February 1938 the Vizegerenten in the Diocese of Rome , Archbishop Luigi Traglia , the sacrament of Holy Orders .

John Joseph Graham then became a curate at St. Luke the Evangelist Church in Glenside . From 1940 to 1946 he was a curate at St. George Church in Glenolden and taught at the Roman Catholic High School for Boys in Philadelphia. In 1946 Graham became vice-superintendent for the Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and from 1959 superintendent for special education . He was also pastor of the Holy Angels Parish in Philadelphia from 1960 to 1964 . In September 1959 Pope John XXIII awarded him . the honorary title of papal house prelate.

On November 25, 1963, Pope Paul VI appointed him . the titular bishop of Sabratha and auxiliary bishop in Philadelphia. The Archbishop of Philadelphia, John Joseph Krol , donated him episcopal ordination on January 7, 1964 in the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul in Philadelphia ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Harrisburg , George Leo Leech , and the Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia, Gerald Vincent McDevitt . As auxiliary bishop, Graham was also active as pastor of the parish of St. Helena in Olney from 1964 to 1990 . He was also a member of the Quorum of Consultors from 1964 to 1999 and of the Council of Priests of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia from 1984 to 1999 .

Graham attended the third and fourth sessions of the Second Vatican Council . On November 8, 1988, Pope John Paul II accepted John Joseph Graham's resignation because of his age.
