John Kemboi Kibowen

John Kemboi Kibowen (also John Kipkemboi Kibowen ; born April 21, 1969 in Changach , Keiyo District ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner who had his greatest successes in cross-country running and in the 5000-meter run .

Life

He started his career as a middle distance runner . At the 1997 World Championships in Athens , he was eliminated over 1500 meters in the preliminary run.

In 1998 the Kenyan team became world champions in the marathon relay . Earlier this year he had won gold on the short course of the World Cross Country Championships . After being sidelined in the 1999 season due to an injury, he won this title again in 2000, and in 2003 he won the third precious metal in this competition with silver on the short distance.

Over 5000 meters he won bronze at the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton . Also well ahead over this distance, he finished fourth at the 2003 World Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis and sixth at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki .

He has been taking part in road races since 2003 . From 2003 to 2005 he won the Parelloop over 10 km three times in a row . In 2008 he switched to the marathon distance : At the Paris Marathon he came 14th in 2:11:04 h, at the Amsterdam Marathon he was eighth in 2:11:28 h.

John Kemboi Kibowen is supervised by PACE Sports Management . He began his career in the Kenyan armed forces, where he was trained as an aircraft mechanic. He has been married since 1993, has four children and runs a milk and corn farm as well as two petrol stations.
