John McNally (born October 18, 1998 in Cincinnati , Ohio ) is an American tennis player . His younger sister Catherine McNally is also a professional tennis player.

Career

McNally started playing tennis when he was three and has been coached by his father ever since.

He played on the junior tour for the first time in 2013; from 2015 regularly. He was able to reach the round of 16 at Wimbledon in 2016 and the quarter-finals of the French Open in doubles . In mid-October he reached his best combined world rankings with rank 13.

On the professional tour, McNally first played in a future tournament in mid-2015 and failed in the first round. A week later, he reached the quarter-finals in another Future, placing him in the tennis world rankings for the first time . For the tournament of the higher endowed ATP Challenger Tour in Columbus , Ohio, near his home country, he received a wild card , but failed again in the opening round. At the end of the 2015 season he was ranked 1579 in singles.

In 2016 he could hardly improve. Again he played only a few tournaments and could never win more than one game in a row. In doubles he at least reached a future final in September, and in doubles in the Challenger in Columbus he made it into a quarter-finals for the first time. The highlight of the season, however, was its premiere at a Grand Slam tournament. For the doubles competition at the US Open , he and his partner Jeffrey John Wolf , with whom he usually plays together, received a wild card. In the opening round they were defeated by the later quarter-finalists Chris Guccione and André Sá 4: 6, 4: 6. While he was still outside the top 1000 at the end of the season in singles, his best ranking in doubles is a 976th place.
