John Wong Soo Kau (born June 6, 1968 in Sandakan ) is Archbishop of Kota Kinabalu .

Life

John Wong Soo Kau was born on June 6, 1968, the seventh of a total of eleven children. He began his education at the Chen Ming Chinese School in Sandakan and then moved to St Mary Secondary School.

John Wong Soo Kau was ordained a priest on January 21, 1999 and initially served as a priest in the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Kota Kinabalu. In 2002 he was sent to Rome for a two-year training course. After his return he worked in the Catholic Diocesan Center advising and training prospective priests. He was incardinated on July 16, 2007 in the clergy of the Sandakan diocese .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on June 21, 2010 as coadjutor archbishop of Kota Kinabalu . The episcopal ordination donated him the archbishop of Kota Kinabalu, John Lee Hiong Fun-Yit Yaw , on October 1 of the same year as bishop ; Co- consecrators were Cornelius Piong , Bishop of Keningau , and Julius Dusin Gitom , Bishop of Sandakan.

After John Lee Hiong Fun-Yit Yaw's retirement , he succeeded him on December 1, 2012 in the office of Archbishop of Kota Kinabalu.

Motto

His coat of arms shows the motto "Iman Harapan Kasih" (Faith, Love, Hope), the three basic Christian virtues from 1 Corinthians 13:13 .
