history

Johnny Deathshadow was founded in 2010 by singer Jonathan Schneider and guitarist Eike Cramer. Initially, the concept was based on cover versions of well-known pop hits in the style of horror punk , which were presented with texts from horror scenarios. The songs were combined with elaborate stage make-up and a visual concept (the band always appears as a group of skeletons), which was later varied somewhat. The lineup was completed with Simon Kaiser (bass) and Maik Wentzien (drums). The first appearances took place in autumn and winter 2010 in Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Cuxhaven. In 2011 the band played at the Walpurgisrock Open Air and the warm-up party at the Rockharz Open Air . In addition, individual support shows were played for the Gothic band Unzucht . At the end of 2011, bassist Simon Kaiser left the band and was replaced by Daniel Meier.

In 2012 further support appearances for Unzucht and Coppelius followed . In addition, the band played self-written material for the first time, including at the 1st East Frisian Gothic meeting. After a support show for Lord of the Lost and Unzucht on February 9, 2013, the band recorded their death rock EP Blood & Bones , which was released on September 13, 2013 on the Hamburg label Make Big Records and by the relevant Online press was reviewed. In 2014 Johnny Deathshadow a. a. a tour with seven concerts in Poland and the Czech Republic. In addition, over 30 shows were played throughout the year, including the Dark Current Fest in Speyer, the Langeln Open Air near Langeln (Holstein) and a support show for Stahlmann at the Alfeld checkpoint. In the middle of 2014 the band changed their style and enriched their sound with strong elements from Gothic and Industrial Metal. In May 2015, drummer Maik Wentzien left the band and was initially temporarily replaced by Sascha Meier, who was only supposed to step in for a support show with Rotting Christ and a tour of England in early December 2015. He has been the band's permanent drummer since December 2015. In early 2016 the band played main support for Pyogenesis at four club shows on their Germany tour.

In January 2016 the debut album Bleed With Me was recorded, which was released on October 21, 2016 via Make Big Records / Soulfood. The album was reviewed by the online and print press and received good to very good reviews. METAL HAMMER author Matthias Weckmann classified it: “The lively riffing comes mainly from the industrial area, with pounding rhythms and automated elements that Krupps fans should like.” Also in the print editions of Legacy, Sonic Seducer and Orkus there are reviews. Shortly after the release, the band went on tour in the UK again in November 2016. A show at Wacken Open Air 2017 was also announced.

In March and 2017 Johnny Deathshadow played as main support for the NDH formation Stahlmann on their "Bastard" tour.
