Theses and forecasts

Jon Fisher presented at Marquette University in 2008

According to Fisher, the decline in new construction activity in the housing sector is a good indicator of the further development of the unemployment rate . He writes: "Historically, a collapse in new construction activity in US housing construction has always been followed by an increase in unemployment in the following year", and from this he concludes that there is a linear relationship between new construction activity and the national unemployment rate during a recession . During a lecture at Marquette University in April 2008, Fisher made one of the most accurate projections of unemployment in US history when he predicted the US unemployment rate would rise to 9% in April 2009.

Before the Commonwealth Club of California, Fisher predicted in August 2009 that the unemployment rate in the US would rise to a maximum of 10.4% and then fall to 8.0% by the end of 2010. Fisher declared the consumer's home the center of the US and other economies . So he put the The World Is Flat - thesis of Thomas Friedman questioned. Fisher was an avowed opponent of the Treasury Department's bailouts when he said, "There are several restructuring techniques that the business community is familiar with, but none of them are used by the government ." However, Fisher also wrote that " Entrepreneurship should not be used to break the state safety net".

In an interview on IE Radio in March 2010, Fisher accurately predicted the timing of the 2011 budget crisis in the United States .
