Jonas Wolf (sculptor)
Jonas Wolf (also: Jonas Wulf , Jons Wulff or Jonat Wulues ; * in the 16th century; † in mid- November 1619 in Hildesheim ) was a German sculptor of the Renaissance .
life and work
Jonas Wolf was the son of the sculptor Ebert Wolf the Elder and the brother of Ebert Wolf the Younger and Hans Wolf .
Between 1603 and 1612 he was with his father and brothers in Bückeburg in the service of Count Ernst III. zu Schaumburg for the decoration of the Bückeburg Castle . With his brother Ebert Wolf the Younger, he created parts of the pulpit balustrade for the chapel of Bückeburg Castle . Other decorative work in the castle chapel, such as the wooden decorations on the ribbed vault, are attributed to him. He also worked with his brother Hans Wolf around 1611 to 1615 for furnishing the town church in Bückeburg .
After his stay in Bückeburg, he went to Hildesheim in 1612, where he lived in the house in Brühl he had inherited from his father and died in mid-November 1619. In 1617 he was commissioned to build the organ stage in Hildesheim Cathedral , and he also made a non-preserved Neptune fountain for Hildesheim. From August 1619 he carried out the Aktäonbrunnen in Hanover together with a son and two journeymen , but he did not live to see its completion.
