Jonathan Creon Stewart (* 21st March 1987 in Fort Lewis , Washington ) is a former American American football poker players. He played for ten seasons with the Carolina Panthers and also with the New York Giants in the National Football League (NFL) on the position of running back .

college

Stewart, who also made a name for himself as a sprinter in high school, had offers from several universities, chose the University of Oregon and successfully played college football for their team, the Ducks , from 2005 to 2007 . As a running back he got a total of 2,891 yards , as a kick returner 1,664 yards and a total of 35 touchdowns .

NFL

Carolina Panthers

In the 2008 NFL Draft , he was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the first round as the 13th player. In his first season he ran in all games and holds the corresponding rook record of the franchise with 10 touchdowns . In 2009 he got his first starts as a starter and was able to run more than 1000 yards. In the following seasons he became an integral part of the Panthers offense .

Stewart was not spared injuries and was only able to play 9 games in 2012 and only 6 in 2013.

In 2015 he not only reached Super Bowl 50 with the Panthers , which was lost to the Denver Broncos , but was also called up for his consistently good performance in the Pro Bowl . In March 2017 he extended his contract for another year.
Also in the following two seasons he was an integral part of the Panthers offense . Still, Stewart, who holds numerous franchise records and is the most successful running back in his team's history, was fired in February 2018 after ten seasons.

New York Giants

In March 2018, Stewart came to the New York Giants , where he signed a two-year contract for $ 900,000 . He was only used in three games due to an injury.
At the end of April 2019, he announced his resignation. He had received a contract from the Panthers for one day to be able to say goodbye to active sport as a member of this team.
