Jorge Luis Córdova Diaz (born April 20, 1907 in Manatí , †  September 16, 1994 in San Juan ) was a Puerto Rican politician . Between 1969 and 1973 he represented Puerto Rico as a Resident Commissioner in the United States House of Representatives .

Career

Jorge Córdova was the son of Congress delegate Félix Córdova Dávila (1878-1938). He studied until 1928 at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC After a subsequent law degree at Harvard University and his admission as a lawyer in 1931, he began to work in this profession. Between 1940 and 1945 he was a judge on the Superior Court in San Juan. He then worked as a judge at the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico ( Tribunal Supremo ) until 1946 . Politically, he was a member of the Partido Nuevo Progresista .

In the congressional elections of 1968 Córdova was elected as a non-voting delegate to the US House of Representatives in Washington, where he succeeded Santiago Polanco Abreu on January 3, 1969 and belonged to the Republican parliamentary group. Since he was not confirmed in 1972, he could only remain in Congress until January 3, 1973 . Because the congress delegates from Puerto Rico are elected for four years, in contrast to the other American electoral rules, this corresponds to one legislative period for him.

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Jorge Córdova worked as a private businessman. He died in San Juan on September 16, 1994.
