José Joaquín Castelblanco Romero (born December 15, 1969 in Úmbita , Boyacá ) is a former Colombian cyclist . During his playing days he was one of the dominant racing cyclists in his country, winning the Vuelta a Colombia four times .

Athletic career

José Castelblanco began his professional career in 1996 with the Spanish cycling team Kelme . He had already won the Vuelta a Guatemala in 1992 and the Circuito Montañés in 1994 . Four times - 1997, 1998, 2002 and 2006 - he won the Vuelta a Colombia and won a total of eight stages of this tour. Also in 1997 he was Colombian road racing champion.

Castelblanco started nine times in large country tours. His best placements were 15th at the Vuelta a España 1998 and the Giro d'Italia 2001 . In 2008 he ended his cycling career.

doping

In 2004 Castelblanco was banned for six months after a positive doping test for testosterone ; his victory at the Vuelta a Colombia was stripped from him.
