José Rodríguez Sevilla (born March 28, 1939 in Guadalajara , Jalisco ; † January 1, 2015 in Colima , Colima ), also known by the nickname Dumbo , was a Mexican football player who played either in midfield or in the assault line .

career

"Dumbo" Rodríguez received his first professional contract with his "hometown club" Club Deportivo Nacional , with whom he played in his first season in 1960/61 in the Segunda División . With his 43 goals he was the top scorer of the league and was therefore instrumental in the promotion to the top division, which the team reached at the end of the season.

On June 18, 1961 “Dumbo” Rodríguez made his debut in the Primera División against Club América and scored in the 2: 3 defeat of his team at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario . After two years in the top division, in which he had scored a total of eight goals for the Pericos , Rodríguez moved within Guadalajara to city rivals Atlas Guadalajara , where he was under contract until 1970. With the Rojinegros , "Dumbo" Rodríguez was runner-up in the Mexican League in the 1965/66 season and at the beginning of the 1967/68 season he won the Mexican Cup competition with Atlas . After seven years in which he had scored a total of 54 goals for Club Atlas, Rodríguez moved to CF Monterrey , where he ended his active career in 1975.

Then Rodríguez got into the coaching business and in 1985 took over the team of Loros de la Universidad de Colima, who played in the Tercera División . Among other things, he later coached various amateur teams in his adopted city of Colima , where he lived until his death on New Year's Day 2015.
