José Figueroa Alcorta

José Figueroa Alcorta (born November 20, 1860 in Córdoba , † December 27, 1931 in Buenos Aires ) was President of Argentina from March 12, 1906 to October 12, 1910 . He belonged to the Partido Autonomista Nacional .

Figuera Alcorta was born in Córdoba to José Figueroa and Teodosia Alcorta. He was initially a member of the Chamber of Deputies of the Province of Cordoba before becoming governor of the province in 1895. In 1898 he became a senator in the National Congress . In 1904 he became Vice President and in 1906 President.

He is the only Argentine president to hold offices in the three pillars of a democracy: in the legislature as a member of parliament and senator; in the executive branch as governor, vice-president and president; in the judiciary as judge (1915) and later president (1929) at the Supreme Court of Argentina . The Avenida Figueroa Alcorta , a main street in Buenos Aires, was named after him.
