José Gea Escolano (born June 14, 1929 in Real de Gandia , Valencian Community , † February 6, 2017 in Valencia ) was a Spanish clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Mondoñedo-Ferrol .

Life

José Gea Escolano was ordained a priest on June 29, 1953 . He received his doctorate in theology from the Pontifical University of Salamanca . He was professor of moral theology at the diocesan seminary (1960–1966) and pastoral theology (1970–1971).

Pope Paul VI appointed him on March 25, 1971 auxiliary bishop in Valencia and titular bishop of Arae in Numidia . The Archbishop of Valencia, José María García Lahiguera , gave him episcopal ordination on May 8th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Rafael Alvarez Lara , Bishop of Mallorca , and Jacinto Argaya Goicoechea , Bishop of San Sebastián .

On September 10, 1976 he was by Paul VI. appointed Bishop of Ibiza . Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Mondoñedo-Ferrol on May 15, 1987 . On June 6, 2005, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.
