José Jovêncio Balestieri

José Jovêncio Balestieri SDB (born May 18, 1939 in Massaranduba ) is a Brazilian religious and emeritus Roman Catholic bishop of Rio do Sul .

Life

After he had made his first profession in the order of the Salesians of Don Bosco on January 31, 1958 , he studied philosophy in Lorena from 1959 to 1961 , and theology at the Pontifical University of the Salesians in Rome from 1965 to 1968 . He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1968 . In 1973 he specialized in spirituality in Rome. Within the religious community he was teacher and director of a college, provincial economist, novice master and finally provincial .

On March 6, 1991, he was appointed Bishop of Humaitá by Pope John Paul II . On May 19 of that year, he donated the bishop of Ji-Parana , Antônio Possamai SDB, in Guaramirim the episcopal ordination . Co- consecrators were the retired Archbishop of Florianópolis , Alfonso Niehues , and Hilário Moser SDB, auxiliary bishop in Olinda and Recife . His motto is “Eis-me aqui! Eu vou! "

On July 29, 1998, he was appointed coadjutor bishop of Rio do Sul . When Tito Buss resigned on August 30, 2000, he succeeded him as Bishop of Rio do Sul. On March 19, 2008 he retired from this office.
