José Luis del Palacio y Pérez-Medel (born March 18, 1950 in Madrid ) is a Spanish clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic bishop of Callao .

Life

After graduating from the Complutense University in Madrid with a degree in sociology (1970) and a degree in psychology from the same university (1973), José Luis del Palacio studied theology at the Comillas Pontifical University in Madrid ( licentiate in 1975). Further studies followed (licentiate in philosophy at the Pontifical and Royal University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Manila, 1990; doctorate in theology from the University of Comillas, 1997).

Since 1975, José Luis del Palacio has led the Neocatechumenal Way movement in Peru.

John Paul II ordained him a priest on February 3, 1985 . Pope Benedict XVI appointed him bishop of Callao on December 12, 2011, and he was instituted on January 22 of the next year.

The Archbishop of Madrid , Antonio María Cardinal Rouco Varela , donated him episcopal ordination on January 7th of the following year ; Co-consecrators were Antonio Cardinal Cañizares Llovera , Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Order of the Sacraments , and Paul Josef Cardinal Cordes , President Emeritus of the Pontifical Council “Cor Unum” .

On April 15, 2020, Pope Francis accepted the resignation put forward by José Luis del Palacio y Pérez-Medel.
