José María Larrauri Lafuente

José María Larrauri Lafuente (born March 4, 1918 in Vitoria-Gasteiz , Basque Country , Spain ; † December 9, 2008 ibid) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Vitoria , based in Vitoria-Gasteiz.

Life

José María Larrauri Lafuente initially worked as a bank clerk for three years and attended lectures on civil law . In 1942 he entered the seminary and studied Catholic theology and philosophy . He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1948 and was active as a pastor. From 1950 he was secretary to Arturo Tabera , director of the secretariat of the diocesan mission work, representative of the Catholic youth in the diocese and professor and rector of the seminary.

Pope Paul VI appointed him titular bishop of Aufinium in 1970 and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Pamplona . He was ordained bishop on November 4, 1970 by the Archbishop of Pamplona, Cardinal Arturo Tabera Araoz ; Co- consecrators were Ireneo García Alonso , Bishop of Albacete , and Bishop José Delicado Baeza , Archbishop of Valladolid .

From 1974 to 1979 he was director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (Obras Misionales Pontificias OMP) in Spain at the suggestion of the Spanish Bishops' Conference . In 1979 he was appointed Bishop of Vitoria by Pope John Paul II .

His age-related resignation was granted by John Paul II in 1995.
