José Delicado Baeza (born January 18, 1927 in Almansa , † March 17, 2014 in Valladolid ) was Archbishop of Valladolid .

Life

José Delicado Baeza entered the seminary in Málaga in 1944 , where he studied philosophy and, from 1947, Catholic theology at the Pontifical University of Salamanca . He was ordained a priest on July 21, 1951 in Almansa . He was vicar of the Parish of the Immaculate Conception of Albacete and diocesan chaplain of the labor movement. In 1952 he was canon at the Cathedral of Albacete and in 1953 Professor and Spiritual of the seminary and the seminary of the late vocations. José Delicado Baeza published numerous writings on pastoral issues and spirituality, especially during a stay at the Spanish National Church in Rome. In 1964 he was appointed vicar general of the diocese of Tui-Vigo.

On April 18, 1975, Pope Paul VI appointed him. to the Archbishop of Valladolid. After his inauguration on June 7, 1975, José Delicado Baeza was particularly committed to restructuring the archdiocese and founded various participation bodies. In the Spanish Bishops' Conference he was a member of the Commission for the Clergy (1975–1978) and from 1978 to 1981 its chairman. He was Vice-President of the Bishops' Conference (1981–1988) and Chairman of the Committee on Education and Catechesis (1988–1992). On August 28, 2002, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.

José Delicado Baeza has published over 20 books on topics of priestly spirituality, pastoral care and diocesan pastoral care. In his communication “Qué es ser obispo hoy?” He published around 1,300 letters with lectures and sermons.
