Ireneo García Alonso

Ireneo García Alonso (born March 25, 1923 in Quintanilla Vivar , † June 4, 2012 in Toledo ) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Albacete .

Life

Ireneo García Alonso studied theology and philosophy at the seminars of Burgos (1934/40) and Toledo (1941/42). In 1948 he received his doctorate in theology from the Pontifical University of Salamanca . From 1948 to 1949 he was a deacon in Helechosa de los Montes in Badajoz . He was ordained a priest on July 23, 1950 and was professor of humanities at the seminary of Toledo until 1955 . In 1957 he graduated in canon law at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and was canon at the Cathedral of Toledo from 1958 to 1968 and from 1960 chancellor of the Archdiocese of Toledo .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on December 7, 1968 Bishop of Albacete . The Apostolic Nuncio in Spain , Luigi Dadaglio , donated him episcopal consecration on January 25, 1969 in the cathedral of Albacete; Co- consecrators were Arturo Tabera Araoz CMF , Archbishop of Pamplona-Tudela , and Anastasio Granados García , Auxiliary Bishop in Toledo . In the Spanish Bishops' Conference CEE he was a member of the Episcopal Commission for Liturgy from 1969 to 1981.

On August 4, 1980, Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation for health reasons.
