José Raúl Vera López OP (born June 21, 1945 in Acámbaro ) is a Mexican Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Saltillo .

Life

Vera López entered the Dominican order and studied Roman Catholic theology . On June 29, 1975, Pope Paul VI donated to him . the ordination .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Ciudad Altamirano on November 20, 1987 . The Pope personally donated him episcopal ordination on January 6 of the following year . Co-consecrators were the Curia Archbishops Eduardo Martínez Somalo and Giovanni Battista Re .

On August 14, 1995 he was appointed coadjutor bishop of San Cristóbal de Las Casas . On December 30, 1999, Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Saltillo.

He has received several awards for his commitment to human rights, including the Thorolf Rafto Memorial Prize in 2010 .
