José Rafael Molina Ureña (born January 31, 1921 in San Francisco de Macorís , Dominican Republic , † May 22, 2000 in Santo Domingo , Dominican Republic) was a Dominican politician ( Partido Revolucionario Dominicano (PRD), from 1989 Partido Revolucionario Independiente (PRI )) and for two days President of the Dominican Republic .

Life

After studying law and the promotion of Doctor of Law from the Universidad de Santo Domingo (from 1961 Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo ) in 1948, he was a lawyer working and later completed postgraduate studies in commercial law and social sciences in France and Costa Rica .

He began his political career as a member of the Partido Revolucionario Dominicano (PRD), as its president he was also a presidential candidate. Later he was General Secretary and President of the Partido Revolucionario Independiente (PRI) founded by Jacobo Majluta Azar . During the presidency of Juan Bosch Gaviño between February and September 1963, he was not only his vice-president, but as such also president of the constituent assembly (Asamblea Constituyente) and the Chamber of Deputies (Cámara de Diputados, lower house ).

When there was a military revolt on April 24, 1965 against the triumvirate chaired by Donald Reid Cabral in order to reinstate the legally elected President Bosch and the constitution of 1963, a revolutionary committee followed on the following day after a few hours of transition his swearing in as Provisional President of the Dominican Republic . Two days later, however, the inauguration of Colonel Francisco Alberto Caamaño as the new president of the so-called constitutionalists followed, after Bosch himself had renounced a return from the Puerto Rican exile and thus to power. The junta, for its part, installed Pedro Bartolomé Benoit as provisional and from May 7, 1965 Antonio Imbert Barrera as state president under the American occupation.

During the presidency of Joaquín Balaguer , Molina was ambassador to Paris from 1968 to 1971 . Between 1980 and 1981 he was President of the Consultative Council of Seguros (JUCOSE), of which he was previously General Administrator. In 1998, by resolution of the National Congress, he was granted a state pension.
