José Refugio Mercado Díaz (born July 28, 1942 in Ixtlahuacán del Río , † October 15, 2014 ) was auxiliary bishop in Tehuantepec .

Life

José Refugio Mercado Díaz entered the minor seminary at the age of 14 and studied philosophy and theology at the diocesan seminary. He received on April 2, 1972 by the Archbishop of Guadalajara , José Salazar López , the ordination . He was chaplain in Acatlán de Juárez and from 1974 to 1977 vicar in Ameca. He was then pastor of St. Martin of Tours in the city of Guadalajara.

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Turuzi and auxiliary bishop in Tehuantepec in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca on September 16, 2003 . He was involved in the seminary of La Barca and was dean of Ocotlán and episcopal vicar of San Antonio de Padua. In the Mexican Bishops' Conference he was a member of the Pastoral Care Committee. On June 10, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI. his premature, health-related resignation.
