José de Matos Pereira

José de Matos Pereira CMF (born January 6, 1918 in Taiúva , State of São Paulo , Brazil , † August 12, 1976 ) was a Roman Catholic religious and bishop of Barretos .

Life

José de Matos Pereira joined the Congregation of the Claretian in and received on 18 September 1945, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on April 25, 1973 as the first bishop of the newly established diocese of Barretos . The bishop of Jaboticabal , José Varani , ordained him episcopal on June 6th of the same year ; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops Benedito de Ulhôa Vieira and Lucas Moreira Neves OP from São Paulo . The inauguration in the diocese took place three days later. His episcopal motto was “O amor de Cristo nos une” ( The love of Christ unites us ).
