Josanne "Jo" Potter (born November 13, 1984 in Mansfield ( Nottinghamshire , England )) is a British football player . The midfielder is currently under contract with Reading FC and plays for the English national team .

Career

society

At the age of 15, Potter began playing football at the Chesterfield center of excellence. From 2001 to 2002 she played for Sheffield Wednesday and then moved to Birmingham City LFC , to which she returned after short stints at other clubs. In 2012 she reached the FA Women's Cup final with Birmingham and won the Cup on penalties against Chelsea, which she had already achieved eight years earlier with Arsenal. In the 2012/13 season she played with Birmingham as runner-up at the FA WSL in the UEFA Women's Champions League, but failed in the round of 32 against Italian runners-up ASD CF Bardolino . After ten games in the 2016 season, she switched to for the rest of the season. Then it went to Reading .

National team

In 2003 she took part with the U-19 team in the U-19 European Women's Football Championship in 2003 , but failed in the semi-finals against eventual winners France. In April 2004 she was appointed to the senior national team for the first time, but had to cancel due to back problems. On September 18, 2004, Potter then made his debut in a game against the Netherlands in the English national team. Her first international goal was the 10-0 in the 13-0 win against Hungary in qualifying for the 2007 World Cup on October 27, 2005. However, she did not get beyond the status of a substitute player, especially since she repeatedly had injury problems and was in the following years also not taken into account for the European and World Championships. In qualifying for the 2015 World Cup, she only made a brief appearance in a 10-0 win against Montenegro , scoring the 9-0 goal in the third minute of stoppage time. At the Cyprus Cup 2015 , which England won for the third time, she was then used in the three group games and was also nominated in May at the age of 30 for the 2015 World Cup and thus for the first time for a major tournament for the senior national team. But she was only used twice: in the last group game against Colombia she was substituted on and in the game for third place against Germany she was in the starting line-up and thus helped her team to win a game against Germany for the first time. With the victory, England was able to win a World Cup medal again for the first time after the men's World Cup victory in 1966.

In the qualification for the European Championship 2017 that followed after the World Cup , it was used in three games. She was also nominated for the European Championship and used in the group matches against Spain and Portugal . In qualifying for the 2019 World Cup , she only had a 17-minute short appearance against Bosnia and Herzegovina . After that, it was not reinstated.
