Josef Hamberger (sculptor)
Josef Hamberger (born December 26, 1925 in Frasdorf ; † May 1, 2019 in Rosenheim ) was a German sculptor with a focus on Christian art .
Life
Hamberger was first a farmhand in 1940 . In 1942 he joined the labor service , was a soldier in 1943 and then a Soviet prisoner of war.
From 1946 to 1950 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and in 1951 at the Royal College of Art in London , where he was invited to a studio visit by the English artist Henry Moore . From 1951 to 1954 he was a master student under Josef Henselmann .
From 1955 he lived as a freelance sculptor in Rosenheim . In addition to three monuments and several public works such as fountains, he created furnishings for many churches, especially in southern Germany and Austria.

- 1978 Apostelweg to Petersberg , Flintsbach am Inn. 13 stone steles with bronze reliefs
- 1981 Wasserrad, Rosenheim Culture and Congress Center, steel (height: 6 meters)
- 1986 rosette in St. Ulrich in Unterschleißheim
- 1997 Crosier for Cardinal Ratzinger (later Benedict XVI. ), Wood and bronze (height: 1.9 meters)
- 2006 St. Nikolaus parish church (Rosenheim), weekday altar, ambo, Sedilien (aluminum bronze), tabernacle stele
- 2010 Relief of Saints Stephen and Laurentius at the parish church in Raubling , bronze (height: 2.3 meters)
