Josef Landes

Josef Landes (born May 23, 1841 in Etting , † July 10, 1919 in Kaufbeuren ) was a Catholic clergyman and a member of the German Reichstag .

Life

After graduating from the Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich , Landes studied theology in Munich from 1861 to 1865 . Between 1865 and 1868 he was chaplain in Murnau and Benediktbeuern and from 1868 to 1870 he was episcopal seminary prefect in Dillingen. From 1870 to 1873 he was field chaplain in the Royal Bavarian 2nd Army Division in France and then until 1882 city chaplain in Kempten . In 1873 he founded the Marienanstalt for factory workers and unemployed girls in Kempten . In 1882 he became the city pastorin Kaufbeuren. There he founded a children's college (1884), a health foundation (1887), an apprentice home fund (1892) and the St. Antonius fund for children and sick people (1899), as well as several foundations. He was a clergyman , dean, papal treasurer and was made an honorary citizen of Kaufbeuren. In December 1918 he retired.

From 1890 to 1893 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the Schwaben 6 constituency ( Immenstadt , Sonthofen , Kempten , Lindau ) and the German Center Party .

In Kaufbeuren, the Josef-Landes-Schule and a street are named after him, in Kempten the Josef-Landes-Haus , a senior citizens' dormitory that goes back to an institution he founded.
