Josef Myslimír Ludvík

Josef Ludvík Myslimír (* 2. April 1796 in Dolany , Hradec Kralove , † 1. January 1856 in Malá Skalice ) was a Czech patriotic -minded writer and a Roman Catholic priest .

Life

Josef Myslimír Ludvík was the son of a farmer. From 1808 to 1813 he attended the German-speaking Stiftsgymnasium in Braunau . He then studied philosophy with the Piarists in Litomyšl , which was then a center of national revival . After studying theology at the Königgrätz seminary, he was ordained a priest in 1819.

From 1820 he was court chaplain at Náchod Castle , which was then owned by the Duchess Wilhelmine von Sagan . In this capacity, he had access to both the castle and the Náchod town archives, which he could use to research the history of the town and the Nachod rule . In 1821 he was one of the 30 founding members of the Náchoder "Čtenářská společnost" ( Literary Society ), about which he wrote an article for the magazine "Čechoslav". Even after the club was dissolved five years later, he continued to pursue the goals set. Ludvík increased the books and magazines acquired by Čtenářská společnost with around 100 of his own books, which he lent to those interested in reading. Later they formed the basis of the Náchod school library. In his pedagogical and patriotic concerns he was supported by, among others, Josef Regner , the Náchoder fellow chaplain and later pastor of Hronov .

In 1831, Ludvík was one of the founders of the Matice česká , which pursued the goal of consolidating the Czech language in literature and education. In 1833 he was transferred to Svatoňovice as a chaplain , and a year later to Studnice as a localist . There he wrote the "Paměti duchovní osady Studnické" ( Chronicle of the Studnice Spiritual Community ) in 1834 . In 1846 he was appointed pastor of Boušín ( Bauschin ), but retired two years later for health reasons. He spent his old age in Malá Skalice ( Kleinskalitz ). Presumably there he met the writer Božena Němcová . He also wrote his last work, the comprehensive history of the town and rule of Nachod ("Památky hradu, města a panství Náchod i vlastkníkův jeho"). However, he could no longer complete this work. The first part was published by the Neustadt dean Karel Rojek after his death .

Ludvík's literary work has been published in various patriotic magazines that also pursued the national revival.

Josef Myslimír Ludvík died on January 1st, 1856 in Kleinskalitz. His body was buried in the local cemetery.
