Josef Ofner (politician)

Josef Ofner (born April 9, 1979 in Friesach in Carinthia ) is an Austrian politician of the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ), previously Alliance Future Austria (BZÖ). He has been mayor of Hüttenberg since 2009 and a member of the Federal Council delegated by the Carinthian state parliament since April 2018 .

Life

education and profession

After elementary school in Knappenberg and secondary school in Hüttenberg, Ofner attended the commercial academy in Althofen . He learned the instruments clarinet, flute and saxophone and after his military service he was a military musician with the military music of Carinthia from 1999 to 2004 . He then moved to the cultural department in the office of the Carinthian provincial government . In 2007 he became managing director of the Carinthische Musikakademie GmbH . From 2013 to 2017 he worked as an insurance specialist for Merkur Versicherung . In 2017 he started a distance learning course in General Management Competences at Danube University Krems .

politics

From 2003 to 2009 Josef Ofner was a member of the municipal council of the market town of Hüttenberg . In the municipal council and mayor elections in Carinthia in 2009 , he ran for the Alliance Future Austria , the mayor election against the previous mayor of Hüttenberg, Rudolf Schratter (SPÖ), he won with 55.32 percent of the vote. Since 2010 he has been deputy FPÖ district party chairman in the Sankt Veit an der Glan district , since 2016 regional party chairman of the FPÖ Carinthia and since 2017 a member of the FPÖ federal party leadership.

From 2018 he was state party secretary of the FPÖ Carinthia. After the state elections in Carinthia in 2018 , he has been a member of the Federal Council delegated by the Carinthian state parliament since April 12, 2018 in the 32nd legislative period . In June 2020, his resignation as state party secretary of the FPÖ Carinthia was announced. Isabella Theuermann , with whom he shared this function, became the sole state party secretary .
