Josef Prader

Josef Prader (born July 3, 1915 in Tschötsch , Brixen ; † January 21, 2006 in Brixen) was a Roman Catholic clergyman from South Tyrol , a scientist and author for canon law .

Life

After graduating from high school at the Vinzentinum in Brixen, Prader studied theology at the local seminary . On June 29, 1940 , he was ordained a priest in Bressanone Cathedral . After pastoral work in Cortina d'Ampezzo , St. Jakob in the Ahrntal and Colle Santa Lucia , he studied canon law at the Pontifical University "Gregoriana" in Rome . After receiving his doctorate , he was first bishop secretary (court chaplain) to Bishop Joseph Gargitter . Then Prader became Chancellor of the Diocese of Brixen. In 1964 he became official of the new diocese of Bozen-Brixen and marriage judge at the regional church court.

Josef Prader was born in 1973 by Pope Paul VI. appointed as a member of the Pontifical Commission for the Reform of Canon Law of the Catholic Eastern Churches ( Congregation for the Eastern Churches ). In 1991 Monsignor Josef Prader became consultor of the Pontifical Council for the Interpretation of Church Laws. Until 2004 he was a professor at the Papal Oriental Institute ("Pontificio Instituto Orientale") in Rome.

Josef Prader was an internationally sought-after expert on canon law , the law of the Roman Catholic world church, and published numerous scientific publications on international matrimonial and family law, Latin ecclesiastical marriage law, the marriage law of the Eastern Churches and Islam.

Prader was also spiritual advisor to the Marian Congregation for Men in Brixen.
