Josef Prantl (painter)

Josef Prantl (born March 20, 1901 in Hötting , † March 9, 1992 in Innsbruck ) was an Austrian painter .

Life

Josef Prantl attended the Kunstgewerbeschule in Innsbruck from 1919 to 1923 and took drawing lessons at the Toni Kirchmayr painting and drawing school and with Rudolf Lehnert . From 1925 to 1927 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Franz von Stuck and also attended the graphics school with Adolf Schinnerer . In 1932 he had his first solo exhibition in the Tyrolean State Museum Ferdinandeum . In the same year he joined the artists' association Secession Innsbruck .

After the Second World War he worked as a painter, graphic artist, illustrator, set designer and restorer. As a painter he especially created landscapes and still lifes with flowers . In the post-war period he designed numerous facades of public buildings in Tyrol. He also provided designs for the Tyrolean glass painting and mosaic institute . In 1987 he was given the professional title of Professor  .
