Josef Rabas

Josef Rabas (born October 28, 1908 in Žatec (German Saaz ), Bohemia ; † August 23, 2003 in Würzburg ) was a Czech-German pastoral theologian and Roman Catholic clergyman.

Life

After attending the grammar school in Žatec, Josef Rabas was sent to Rome by the Leitmeritz bishop Josef Gross to study Catholic theology . After completing his studies in 1934 he was on July 15 th. J. ordained a priest. After returning to the diocese of Leitmeritz, he was initially chaplain in Postoloprty . On March 1, 1937 he was appointed secretary to Bishop Anton Alois Weber on the proposal of Vicar General Adolf Šelbický . In addition to the secretariat, he was also a preacher in the cathedral of Leitmeritz and at the same time taught religion at Leitmeritz schools. Because of alleged hostility towards the Nazi regime , he was banned from teaching in 1942. After the Second World War he worked as a clergyman in the Archdiocese of Freiburg , where he a. a. took over the pastoral care of the expelled Sudeten Germans . From 1950 he was a religion teacher in Ansbach and Bayreuth , later he became a full professor for pastoral theology at the University of Würzburg . After his retirement, from 1976 to 1991 he headed the Ackermann Community work and contact center in Rome, from where he tried to support the oppressed Roman Catholic Church in Czechoslovakia . He continued this activity even after the political change in 1989. Because of these services, he was made an honorary canon of the Litoměřice Cathedral Chapter on September 25, 1998 . He died on August 23, 2003 in Würzburg and was born on August 30. J. buried by the Leitmeritz bishop Josef Koukl in Rottendorf near Würzburg.
