Josef Rommerskirchen (born February 16, 1916 in Odenkirchen ; † March 9, 2010 in Wachtberg - Niederbachem ) was a German publicist , association functionary and politician ( CDU ).

Life

Josef Rommerskirchen spent his childhood and youth in Mönchengladbach . There he was forced to quit high school in 1933 as an avowed Catholic . Nevertheless, he remained a member of the Catholic Young Men Association until it was brought into line by the National Socialists in 1938/39. He completed a commercial apprenticeship in Mönchengladbach from 1933 to 1935 and, after completing his training as a journalist, worked for the publishing house Jugendhaus Düsseldorf for the magazine “Am Scheidewege”. From 1937 he performed the Reich Labor Service . From 1939 to 1945 he took part in World War II as a soldier , most recently as a reserve officer andBattalion commander . At the end of the war he was taken prisoner by the French, from which he was released in 1947. As a prisoner of war was Rommerskirchen July 1946 to February 1947 seminarian in the so-called barbed wire seminary of Chartres , which from 1945 to 1947 of Abbot Franz Stock as rain was headed. In 1946/47 he was head of the prisoner of war newspaper Licht im Dunkel .

In 1947 Rommerskirchen was one of the founders of the Federation of German Catholic Youth (BDKJ) and was its chairman until 1952. As a co-founder, he was chairman of the German Federal Youth Association (DBJR) from 1949 to 1952 . He also worked actively in the European Movement International and in various international institutions. From 1952 to 1960 he was head of the department and from 1976 to 1981 director of the Federal Agency for Civic Education . In addition, from 1982 to 1992 he was Chairman of the Board of the Federal Chancellor Adenauer House Foundation in Rhöndorf . In the Bundeswehr he also achieved the rank of colonel in the reserve.

His son Jörg Rommerskirchen (born October 23, 1941 in Essen) is a German economist and was State Secretary in the Berlin Senate.

Josef Rommerskirchen had been a member of the CDU since 1953 and was a member of the German Bundestag from December 12, 1960 to 1976, replacing the resigned deputy Johannes Brüns . He was first drawn into parliament via the state list of North Rhine-Westphalia . From 1961 to 1976 he represented the constituency of Neuss - Grevenbroich I there .
