Josef Rudin

Josef Rudin SJ (born December 4, 1907 in Zurich ; † September 3, 1983 ibid) was a Swiss Jesuit , depth psychologist and university professor .

Life

Josef Rudin was the son of the upholsterer Adolf Rudin.

He attended grammar school in Einsiedeln monastery and entered the Society of Jesus in 1927 . He received his philosophical and theological studies at the religious colleges and was ordained a priest in 1938 .

In 1942 he received his doctorate in psychology from the University of Friborg (Switzerland) and was then a permanent employee of the Apologetic Institute of the Swiss Catholic People's Association .

He was the editor of the Apologetic Papers and from the beginning of the 11th year 1947 Orientation , of which he was editor-in-chief from 1947 to 1952. He converted the magazine from an anti-communist information service to a forum for questions of ecumenism , the third world and liberation theology , so that it became a medium for a critically open-minded Catholicism.

In 1950 he opened a therapeutic practice and became a lecturer at the Institute for Applied Psychology in Freiburg in 1964 and at the CG-Jung Institute in 1965 . From 1966 to 1969 he was honorary professor for pastoral psychology at the University of Innsbruck .

Act

Josef Rudin performed an important pioneering and mediating function between depth psychology and pastoral theology .
