Josef Sauer

Josef Sauer (born May 4, 1893 in Bamberg , † March 12, 1967 in Munich ) was a German draftsman and caricaturist .

Life

After studying at the Nuremberg University of Applied Arts as a master class student with Max Körner from 1923 to 1927, Sauer was part of the circle around Olaf Gulbransson and Thomas Theodor Heine from 1928 . This is followed by publications in Die Jugend , Simplicissimus and Nebelspalter . From 1955 he received support with the new edition of "Simplicissimus", and frequently made reprints of his work in the Spiegel . In 1952 he received the Albrecht Dürer Prize of the City of Nuremberg, in 1956 the Grand Prize / Gran Diploma d'Onore in Bordighera at the “Salone Internazionale dell'Umorismo” and in 1964 the Joseph E. Drexel Prize .

In 1959 he was convicted of insulting State Minister Hundhammer .

One of his sons is the director , screenwriter and film producer Helmer von Lützelburg .
