Raimondas Sukys

Raimondas Šukys (born October 27, 1966 in Šiauliai ) is a Lithuanian ombudsman, lawyer and politician.

Life

After graduating from the Julius Janonis Middle School in 1984 , Raimondas Šukys graduated from the University of Vilnius Law Faculty from 1992 to 1996 with a doctoral degree . From 1991 to 1992 Šukys worked as a lawyer in the editorial team of the local newspaper “Šiaulių kraštas” and from 1992 to 1994 in the consulting company “Verslo raktas”. He then worked in 1993/94 as an advisor to the parliamentary group of the Lietuvos democinė darbo partija party and as a research assistant at Vilnius University.

In 2000, Raimondas Šukys was elected to the Lithuanian Parliament ( Seimas ) for the Lietuvos liberalų sąjunga (LLS ) party and was confirmed in the 2004 elections. Today he is a member of the Liberalų ir centro sąjunga (LiCS) party. After LiCS joined the government, he was appointed Minister of the Interior in Gediminas Kirkilas' new cabinet on July 12, 2006. He held this office until December 17, 2007, when he assumed political responsibility for a fatal car accident. A police officer hit and killed three school children in his civil vehicle.

After the 2008 elections , Raimondas Šukys was elected one of the six deputy chairmen of parliament. He is a member of the Group of the Liberals and Center Union and was the first Deputy Speaker of the Parliament until March 2010. From March 10, 2010 to December 2012, he was Minister of Health of Lithuania . From January 16, 2013, he was advisor to the Justice Minister Juozas Bernatonis (in the Butkevičius cabinet ). He has been ombudsman since April 2013 .
