Eligijus Masiulis (born October 15, 1974 in Klaipėda ) is a Lithuanian liberal politician , former Seimas member (2000–2016) and the government of Lithuania , Lithuanian Minister of Transport (2008–2012).

Life

In his youth, Masiulis took part in the Sąjūdis movement. After graduating from Smeltė Middle School in Klaipėda in 1992, he completed a bachelor's and master's degree in political science at Klaipėda University from 1993 to 1999 . In 1994, Masiulis became the first president of the Klaipėda University Student Union. From 1998 to 2000 he was an advisor to the then mayor of Klaipėda Municipality , Eugenijus Gentvilas . From 1997 to 1998 and from 2000 to 2002 Masiulis was a member of the Klaipėda City Council. There he headed the Committee on Education, Culture and Sport.

From 2000 to May 20, 2016, Masiulis was a member of the Lithuanian Parliament Seimas and worked as a member of the Economic Committee, Environmental Protection Committee, Audit Committee, Social Committee, State Administration and Local Authorities Committee. In 2016, he resigned after the scandal, when 106,000 euros were secured by the STT legal institution. There were allegations of possible corruption by the MG Baltic concern . He was Minister of Transport from 2008 to 2012.

From 1996 to 2003 Masiulis was a member of Lietuvos liberalų sąjunga , from 2003 to 2005 of Lietuvos liberalų ir centro sąjunga , from 2006 he was deputy chairman of the LRLS. From 1996 to 1998 Masiulis headed the Liberal Youth Klaipėda as chairman , from 1998 the Klaipėda department of Lietuvos liberalų sąjunga and from February 2008 to May 2016 the liberal party Lietuvos Respublikos liberalų sąjūdis . He was replaced by entrepreneur Antanas Guoga .

Masiulis is an honorary member of the “Rotoract” club Klaipėda. From 2004 he was President of the Klaipėda Cycling Association.

Eligijus Masiulis is married and has a son and a daughter. His wife Ieva Masiulienė (* 1976) works as a research assistant and doctoral student at the Institute of Archeology and History at the University of Klaipėda and is a former archaeologist at the Museum of the History of Lithuania Minor .
