Raimundas Palaitis
Raimundas Palaitis (born October 23, 1957 in Palanga ) is a Lithuanian politician, former interior minister and mayor of the Palanga municipality .
Life
For the first five years Palaitis lived in the town of Kartena in the district of Kretinga . His parents worked there as school teachers. After graduating from the Palanga Middle School in 1975, Palaitis began studying applied mathematics in Vilnius in 1975 . In 1980 he graduated from the graduate studies in mathematics at the University of Vilnius . From 1980 to 1989 he worked as a computer programmer in the computer center of the Palanga branch of the Kaunas Cardiology Institute . During this time, Palaitis completed an aspirant in mathematical cybernetics at the Mathematics- Cybernetics Institute.
From 1989 he was a private entrepreneur in what was then the Soviet Union . At the same time he also worked in the communications center in the administration of the Palanga municipality. From 1992 he was only an entrepreneur in the computer sector. Then he traded stocks and other securities.
From 1995 he worked in the Lithuanian port city of Klaipėda , where he bought and sold the shares. From 1997 to 2000 he was director of his own company UAB "Klaipėdos vertybiniai popieriai".
From April to November 2000, Palaitis was mayor of Palanga municipality . From 2000 to 2004 he was a member of the finance committee at Seimas . From December 9, 2008 to March 2012 he was Minister of the Interior of Lithuania . In November 2016, Palaitis was sentenced by the Vilnius District Administrative Court to pay damages of 15,907 euros to the Interior Ministry for unlawfully exonerating the Director of the Department at the Interior Ministry in March 2010.
Raimundas Palaitis was married to his former class friend and fellow student Adelė († 2004) from 1978 to 2004. She was the administrator of the state recreation house "Baltija" in Palanga. They have a daughter and two sons together. He has been married to Vilija Palaitienė since 2006.
Palaitis was a member of the liberal parties Lietuvos liberalų sąjunga (LLS) and Lietuvos centro sąjunga (LCS).
