Gintaras Steponavičius (born July 23, 1967 in Klaipėda ) is a Lithuanian politician, member of the Seimas , former parliamentary vice- president, and education and science minister .

biography

After graduation in 1985 at the Antanas-Vienuolis -Mittelschule in Vilnius he graduated in 1992, the Diploma in Law at the Law Faculty of Vilnius University (VU) and studied in 1990 The Hague ( Netherlands ), 1991 at the University of Copenhagen ( Denmark ), 1992 at European Institute of the University of Birmingham ( UK ), 1994 and from 1995 to 1999 doctoral studies at the Institute of International relations and political sciences of the VU, as well as 1999, at the royal University of Groningen (Netherlands).

From 1994 to 2000 he was Lithuanian coordinator of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation in Vilnius, from 1994 to 2004 professor at the Institute for International Relations and Political Science at VU, from 1997 to 2000 a member of the Vilnius City Council , chairman of the Liberal Group. He has been a member of the Seimas since 2000 (from 2005 to 2008 Deputy Chairman of the Seimas), and from December 9, 2008 to December 12, 2012, Minister of Education in the 15th Government of Lithuania ( Cabinet Kubilius II ).

Gintaras Steponavičius is married. He has a son from his first marriage and a daughter from his second marriage.
