Algis Čaplikas

Algis Čaplikas (born January 27, 1962 in Vilnius ) is a Lithuanian politician, former Vice President of Parliament, Minister of Health and Minister of Environment of Lithuania . He belongs to the Liberal Center Union.

Life

In 1980, Algis Čaplikas graduated from the secondary school in Vilnius, now called Mikalojus Daukša , and studied geodesy and engineering at the Vilnius University of Technology from 1980–1985 . 1985–1990 he worked in the Vilnius Building Combine No. 9, from 1990–1995 he was the district head of the Vilnius district of Justiniškės .

In 1993, Čaplikas was one of the founding members of the Central Union of Lithuania (Lietuvos centro sąjunga) , for which he was elected to the Vilnius City Council in 1995. After the parliamentary elections in 1996 , he entered parliament for the Liberals. After the merger of Lietuvos centro sąjunga with the Liberal Union and the Modern Christian Democrats to form the Union of Liberals and Center (Liberalų ir centro sąjunga), Čaplikas was re-elected to the Seimas in 2004 and 2008 . From October 10, 2006 to April 28, 2008, he was Deputy Chairman of the Seimas and from April 29, 2008 to November 17, 2008, first Deputy Chairman of the Seimas.

From December 1996 to March 1998 he was Minister of Building and Urban Affairs and then Minister of the Environment until the end of the coalition with the Fatherland League in April 1999 . From December 9, 2008 to February 22, 2010 he was Minister of Health of Lithuania in the cabinet of Andrius Kubilius . (He resigned because of indirect demands made by Parliament President Irena Degutienė , as his deputy Artūras Skikas was arrested for a crime.)

Algis Čaplikas and his wife Eglė have a son, Karolis, and a daughter, Saulė.
