Rimantas Jonas Dagys (born July 16, 1957 in Tschiurubai Nuroje , Kazakh SSR ) is a Lithuanian politician.

Life

In 1964 he came to Lithuania with deported parents . After graduating from the 24th Kaunas Middle School in 1975 , he studied chemistry at the Vilniaus universitetas (VU) in 1980 . From 1980 to 1992 he was a research assistant at the "Fermentas" Institute for Biotechnology . In 1985 he received his PhD in chemistry. From 2001 to 2002 he taught at the VU and at the Vilniaus pedagoginis universitetas . From 2008 to 2009 he was Lithuania's Minister of Social Affairs in the 15th government ( Cabinet Kubilius II ).

From 1989 he was a member of Lietuvos socialdemokratų partija , from 1999 to 2001 chairwoman of " Socialdemokratija 2000 ", from 2002 of Tėvynės sąjunga . From 1992 to 2008 he was a member of the Seimas , from 1999 to 2000 Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
