Josef Scheill

Josef Scheill (also Joseph ; born March 13, 1784 in Reichenhall ; † July 9, 1834 near Braunsberg ) was a German Roman Catholic clergyman , theologian , canon lawyer and university professor .

Life

Scheill was born on a farm near Reichenhall. He attended the Benedictine high school in Salzburg and then went to the nearby University of Landshut . There he studied from 1803 to 1804 law and then went temporarily into practice at various Kameralämtern, before returning to the University of Landshut 1815th There he took up the study of theology. Shortly after entering the new course of study, he also decided to enter the local seminary . After he had resolved an academic theological prize question in 1817 (published in 1820) and was ordained a priest , he first went on a long trip to Italy .

After his return in 1818 Scheill became a chaplain at the Aukirche in Munich , but returned to Landshut. There he got a preacher at the church of St. Martin and was in 1821 because of his prize essay presentation of hermeneutical moments during the validation process of dogmatic passages to Dr. theol. PhD . In 1824 he left his home region and followed a call to Braunsberg. There he became a professor of pastoral theology at the Lyceum Hosianum and at the same time the early episcopal-Warmian rain of the local seminary. The Pope appointed him Apostolic Protonotary .

Scheill was particularly popular with the clergy because of his clearly articulated rejection of state interference in church affairs and his tough tone towards his opponents, combined with his hard work . He died while bathing near Braunsberg.
