Josef Schneiders (born August 2, 1940 ) is a former German soccer player. For the KFC Uerdingen 05 he was used at least once in the top four divisions.

Career

In the early 1960s, Schneider moved from Linner SV to FC Bayer 05 Uerdingen, as KFC Uerdingen was called at the time. In 1963 he rose with the team from the fourth-class state league in the association league Niederrhein , where they established themselves directly in the front half of the table. After two runner-up championships in 1967 and 1969 behind VfB Bottrop and SSVg Velbert , respectively , he achieved the league championship title in 1971, combined with promotion to the then second-class Regionalliga West . Again, the team trained by Klaus Quinkert played in the front third. In 1974, before the introduction of the new 2nd Bundesliga , Schneider ended his active career after 81 games in the second-highest division, in which he had scored five goals. In total, he had played over 500 competitive appearances for Krefeld to date.

After retiring from his career, Schneider moved to the coaching bench as Quinkert's assistant coach at Bayer 05. As runner-up in the 2nd Bundesliga North behind Hannover 96 , the team qualified for the promotion games to the Bundesliga , in which the runner-up of the southern season FK Pirmasens was clearly defeated after a 4: 4 draw in the first leg with a 6: 0 return win. The newcomer to the league had no chance in the top division and was soon at the bottom of the table. When an injury misery spread towards the end of the season, Schneiders moved back into the squad. Ultimately, he completed a Bundesliga appearance on the last match day of the 1975/76 Bundesliga season for Bayer Uerdingen in the game against MSV Duisburg when he came on for Wolfgang Franke in the 82nd minute .

After relegation, Schneider returned to his original role as assistant coach. After the missed direct resurgence and a weak start to the second division season 1977/78 Quinkert was on leave in August 1977, Schneider supported the interim solution Bernhard Steffen and Siegfried Melzig . In October 1978, Horst Buhtz took over the coaching position, with whom the club rose again to the Bundesliga as runner-up behind Bayer 04 Leverkusen at the end of the second division season 1978/79 after successes in the promotion games over the south second SpVgg Bayreuth . In the summer, Schneiders gave up his post.
